Thanks for sharing your story - that’s such an amazing idea. I love the fact that you weren’t raising money or supplies to send to them: your project involved sacrificing your time and giving of yourself to love them in a creative and personal way.
It can be so easy to write a check and stick it in the mail. Or get caught up in the idea that I have material wealth and they don’t, so sending them money every month to buy food and clothes is going to make it all better. Of course that is unbelievably important, but as Paul says in 1 Corinthians - “if I do not have love, I am nothing.”
I’m just imagining those kids’ faces when they got their portraits back, realizing that someone in California thought they were important enough to draw their picture. They must have felt so valued and loved.
So thank you for reminding me of what loving people really means. I need something like this to knock me off my material high horse every day. You inspired me. God bless -
